The Black and Pine Kitchen
Fairfield County, Connecticut
Old floors, new bones.
This kitchen keeps what was worth keeping. The home's original wide-plank heart pine floors were preserved and refinished, and everything above them was rebuilt: ebonized oak cabinetry with brushed nickel pulls, a long ebonized island with a white quartz top, white subway tile to the ceiling, and a bank of triple windows over the sink dressed with monogrammed linen café curtains and rope tie-backs.
- Ebonized oak perimeter cabinetry and a freestanding island
- White quartz counters with an undermount sink and bridge faucet
- Floor-to-ceiling subway tile with mirrored candle sconces
- Original heart pine floors preserved and refinished
- Plaster range hood and a French door to the adjoining room
A kitchen this restrained lives or dies on its finish work. Cabinet reveals, tile layout and hardware alignment are visible from a foot away, every day.

The Mustard Kitchen
A kitchen with real personality: mustard walls, a cobalt range and hood, a red-and-white checkerboard floor and warm oak cabinetry.

The Marble Bath Suite
A primary bath in Calacatta marble: a slab-set tub surround, a white oak double vanity and a walk-in shower with brass rain heads.

The Stone Terrace
A bluestone terrace with a fieldstone outdoor kitchen, and a marble outdoor shower set behind a screen wall in the garden.
